Fiona Barrett is a ceramic artist and potter with more than 40 years’ experience working with clay.

Living in the New England region of New South Wales, her work is deeply influenced by the Australian landscape, native wildlife and the rhythms of rural life. Many of her pieces reflect a lifelong connection to country, celebrating the beauty, resilience and character of the Australian bush.

Alongside her creative practice, Fiona has spent her professional life in nursing and healthcare. As a rural and remote nurse, educator and health leader, she has worked across regional communities throughout her career, caring for people and supporting health services in some of Australia’s most isolated settings.

Her pottery is shaped by both these worlds: the observation, patience and practical wisdom of nursing, and a deep appreciation for the land and animals that surround her.

Each wombat is individually handcrafted and primitive fired, making every piece unique. No two are exactly alike, reflecting the individuality and imperfections found in nature itself.
